Topic:

Culture Shock: Automating Incident Response With Your Data

According to the Internet Crime Complaint Center IC3, in 2021, business email compromise (BEC) schemes resulted in 19,954 complaints with an adjusted loss of nearly $2.4 billion.

An external attacker can breach an organization's network perimeter and gain access to local network resources in 93% of cases. This study included financial organizations, educational institutions, government bodies, industrial businesses, IT companies, and other sectors.

We will discuss how a data strategy fuels automated incident response and enables operational security in the prevention of successful cyber attacks.

Guest Speaker:
Jeffrey Baez  CISSP, CCSP, MSIS

Jeffrey currently serves as a Field CISO at Splunk where he engages public sector business leaders and technical experts on best practices, operationalizing investments, and strategic planning that leads to successful digital transformation. Jeffrey holds a number of industry certifications and frequently speaks on topics related to cybersecurity, including the CISA Cybersecurity Summit, National MS-ISAC Conference, NYS Cybersecurity Conference, NYS Forum, and more. Previously, he was a former CISO for both the NYS Department of Financial Services and the NYS Board of Elections, where he was the primary author of a cyber regulation protecting the confidence and integrity of the vote in the State of New York. Jeffrey is also an adjunct professor at the University at Albany College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity where he teaches courses on special topics related to cybersecurity and publishes research.  His greatest satisfaction in life comes from bringing people together, solving complex problems, and making a measurable impact.

As of February 10th Governor Hochul lifted indoor mask or vaccine requirements for businesses statewide.  Following the revised state policy, masks will be optional for NYS Forum events.  We will continue to arrange seating to observe 6 foot social distancing where possible. For more info on the State’s policy, view the Governor’s Feb. 10th release here.
