AI in K-12: What the New Executive Order Means and How District Practices Can Inform Statewide Adoption

This session provides an overview of the federal Executive Order on Artificial Intelligence and its implications for K-12 education, with a focus on how emerging practices in school districts can inform broader public sector strategy. While the Order emphasizes responsible, inclusive, and forward-looking AI integration in school districts, the innovations taking place in K-12 not only shape what students will know and be able to do post-graduation - but could also serve as valuable models for other sectors across state government.

Participants will explore how school districts are already applying AI to enhance instruction, support educators, streamline operations, and build capacity among both students and staff to engage with emerging technologies. The session will feature real-world examples of responsible and ethical AI use, professional development or training, and governance - offering actionable insights that higher education institutions and state entities could potentially adapt to their own missions and stakeholders.
