How the New York State Thruway Removes Technology Traffic Jams with Cloud

Guest Speaker: 
Josh Klemm, Chief Information Officer, New York State Thruway Authority

Josh Klemm, Chief Information Officer, New York State Thruway Authority will be providing an overview of the Thruway, what they do, and where they’re going. This will cover what the Thruway is doing from a modernization perspective including large scale replatforming and refactoring, data initiatives, culture, and how the Thruway has successfully leaned in and embraced AI.

Josh will also speak innovation in the Thruway’s technology on the roadway. Whether it is connected vehicle infrastructure, enabling field staff, or providing better service - they have several projects kicking off in the near future. Finally, Josh will cover the role the Thruway Authority will play in enhancing broadband connectivity in New York State.

Speaker Bio:
Josh S. Klemm was appointed as the Chief Information Officer of the New York State Thruway Authority in October 2021. Prior to joining the Authority, Mr. Klemm served in a variety of positions in his 20 year Information Technology career, including 14 years of service in the State of New York. While with the State of New York, Mr. Klemm served as Chief Information Security Officer and Director of the Bureau of Systems and Informatics at the New York State Department of Health, where his team played a critical role in developing the systems and reports for the State’s COVID-19 response, and ran the State’s All Payer Database, Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System (SPARCS), Provider Directory, and Master Data Management systems. Mr. Klemm has also held positions with the AIDS Institute and Department of Labor. Mr. Klemm received his Bachelor of Arts and his Masters of Science from the University at Albany, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in Informatics with the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity.
