Things to Know When Starting an Enterprise D&A Program

Nate Novosel, Vice President, Data & Analytics Research & Advisory - Gartner

When launching a data and analytics function, there are a lot of capability and organizational model decisions that need to be made. Unfortunately, there are also various political and other considerations to be kept in mind when defining the program. In this session, we'll discuss the scope, structure, and staffing considerations of a new D&A function.

As Vice President, Data & Analytics Research & Advisory for Gartner, Nate Novosel advises D&A leaders at large and midsize enterprises on strategic initiatives such as strategic planning, roadmapping, org design, talent, and D&A value as well as tactical initiatives such as implementing data literacy and data governance initiatives. Mr. Novosel's recent presentation materials have included developing D&A strategies and organizational models as well as helping to foster a data-driven culture. He has been writing research and advising executives for 19 years.

Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Novosel was a Research Director and Principal Executive Advisor, CEB IT Leadership Council for Midsized Companies. He also conducted research and advisory for CEB's Applications Leadership Council, PMO Leadership Council, and Enterprise Architecture Leadership Council as well as for The Hackett Group's IT Practice. Before doing IT research and advisory, he worked in the Financial Services practice supporting leaders in retail banking, small business banking, wealth management, insurance, and operations.
